EU ordered to lift sanction on Iran state Shipping line IRISL

A sanction imposed by the EU against IRISL which is the Iranian State Shipping line has been deemed incorrect and must be lifted according to the EU Court.

The EU General Court has found that EU Council was incorrect in placing sanctions against individuals, companies and banks from Iran.

The Court said that European Governments justification that IRISL was involved in alleged nuclear proliferation, does not justify adoption and maintenance of restrictive measures. The EU Court also said that its finding applies to all other Iranian Shipping firms connected with IRISL.

However the sanctions will still remain while EU Governments decide on whether to appeal this decision. They have 2 months do decide whether to appeal this judgement.
