Diseased Pork sold in markets and restaurants in Shanghai for years.

This is a shocking story from the Shanghai Daily in April 2013.

This story proves that as an international buyer you must always have the products inspected and tested before completing the purchase.

The story is about pigs which had died from disease in neighboring provinces around Shanghai being sold into Shanghai Restaurants and Markets as the farmers did not want to pay the costs for proper disposal of these dead animals.

In China, when a pigs dies from a disease the farmer would normally have to pay about $8 per carcass to a government approved contractor to dispose of the animal. Instead the farmers were dumping the bodies into rivers or selling the dead pigs to illegal traders who would then go to Shanghai and sell the pigs as good meat there.

This trade hit the headlines in China last year when 3 individuals received life sentences for processing and selling the meat of 77,000 dead pigs netting them over USD $1 million between 2009 and 2011. It was also estimated that over 16,000 pigs were dumped into the water supply in the Shanghai region.

In certain areas of China there is a 10% fatality rate in pigs which means that there is a lot of potential for this illegal trade to take place. Jiaxing, for instance, in 2012 it recorded over 325,000 deaths in pigs due to disease.

This is a truly shocking story and it just proves the value of using the independent inspection services that is offered on Goodada.com
